Protect Our Beaches

Beach Erosion

Army Corp of Engineers estimates shoreline loss of 2 feet per year between Ft. Caswell and 638 Caswell Beach Road and 11 feet per year  between 638 Caswell Beach Road and Yaupon Way (west side of golf course) over the past 3 years.

Beach Renourishment

  • Biennial dredging of the Wilmington Harbor provides sand to be placed on Bald Head Island in Years 2 and 4, with sand provided to Caswell Beach and Oak Island in Year 6.
  • The 2024–25 renourishment of Caswell Beach was delayed due to cost issues, with work now rescheduled between November 2025 and April 2026.

Clean Up After Renourishment

Beach renourishment requires equipment staging areas, pumping stations, large pipes along the beach, and injury to existing dunes and vegetation.  Monitoring and coordinating remediation of dunes and vegetation after the project is in our best interest.
