Clean Drinking and Beach Water

Cape Fear River Pollution

  • PFAS (perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroal substances, including Gen-X
  • Federal & State remediation in progress but moving slowly
  • Monitor, report, and focus public pressure on faster, better remediation

Drinking Water

  • Caswell Beach receives a blend of water from 211 Water Treatment Plant (well water) and the Northwest Water Treatment (reverse osmosis)
  • Reverse Osmosis Plant: Delays & Litigation
  • July 2025 testing showed no PFAS in drinking water
  • Caswell Beach needs active engagement with Brunswick Regional Water & Sewer H2GO  to assure highest quality water standards are maintained

Coastal Waters

  • Bacterial Contamination: Enterococci bacteria, an indicator species of bacteria associated with E. coli, salmonella, and hepatitis, among other infections
  • NC closed multiple beaches in 2024 but Caswell remained closed longer than others due to lingering bacterial contamination
  • Focus Attention on waste treatment & storm water management
